back to civilization...unwillingly

what a great weekend! despite eire's exaggerated attempts of the 'danger' that awaited us at the cottage, i had a fabulous time. the weather was great, the water beautifully clear and warm, and the company just wonderful. the cottage itself was so much more than just there for us to sleep in...it was a great place to relax and chill out. the wildlife sightings were fun, too...between the loons, the great blue heron, the water snake, the huge craw fish, we got what we asked for...just a fun time outdoors, swimming, chatting, generally having a great time. what else do i say? :o)

mischief managed!

i had the most ridiculous dream yesterday, but one of the more vivid ones. i dreamt that i'd forgotten about my own advisory committee meeting and that once i'd gone to my advisor after realising so, i was met with the most disappointed advisor ever. he was so very disappointed in me. yet when i went to the prof on my committee i'm most intimidated by, he said 'hey it happens to everyone...don't worry abt it.' and when i woke up to the alarm this morning, i didn't hesitate one second to run into the shower. such is the state of my current paranoid self. so we're going to the cottage this weekend after all! it's such a beautiful cottage...i've been there only in the fall really so i'll be seeing a different face of it this summer. i'm so glad we're going...it'll give us girls some quality time to spend together...this whole weekend should serve that purpose actually, but i think the cottage on eire's birthday would be extra special. me very excited :o) above is the lake that the cottage is on. the actual committee meeting went quite well :)

inundated - literally

i was going to blog my complaints about work today and how i'm not doing any because it bores me outta my mind. the above subject is absolutely pertinent to my work situation right now - i have a whole mile long list of things to do (if i actually wrote out that list, maybe it would help) and i've barely scratched the surface. it's not like i haven't done any work today - i've written two of a five-page article review and done a little search about a survey i'm supposed to find. that's really only the beginning. about an hour ago, i heard a trickling of water, which i assumed to be outside my bedroom window (i live in a basement). what made me look up, i don't know, but it was water trickling (more than a trickle, actually) down the corner of the window sill inside my room. panicked call to the landlord, him running down with a bucket and towels, and then a flurry of cleaning it up, moving stuff around etc. i guess my super-boring day had a tiny bit of excitement to it, whether positive or not. right now, i've got a dehumidifier and a fan whirring in my little room...a little too much noise for me, but it has to be done. i'm glad i'm leaving this hole at the end of august whether i go to dhaka or not. so that's my little story for the day.

woe is me

did i already write about my lost new balance shoes? i only got them a few weeks ago - hmm, maybe a month ago...and i was so fond of them. yes, they were pricey, but they were one of the most comfortable pair of shoes i've ever worn. yeah i know sneakers are meant to be comfortable, but these were com-ffffffyyyyyyyyyyyyy. it would almost be like wearing no shoes if it hadn't been for the heatwave. anyway, long story short, i left it at a new york hotel, and just didn't think about them until i got home to guelph and got paranoid about them having been stolen. only to realise that nope, i'd been dumb enough to LEAVE them behind! was very sad about them when the hunt for them ended without any luck. what else? well, my sweetheart is gone again - this time for work purposes. we spend a lot of time together since i moved to guelph, mainly because of me, but this summer i've been meaning to go camping with him and his housemate. it hasn't happened yet because he keeps leaving! maybe in august... so i'm in guelph this weekend, having bought my ticket to go to kingston next weekend. no sign of the cottage for next weekend (sorry ms. eire). i think the people i emailed about the cottage are away. the pic depicts my NB dilemma.

memories die hard

so i was looking through some old pictures - mainly to see how much has changed in the way i look over the last however many years. i go back to about five years ago, and i really don't look very different. my weight's all over the place - frankly, i would like to be where i was when i first came to canada...sometimes i can't believe i was that skinny, and even then i don't think i thought of myself as skinny. but most of all...the pictures from addy 4, 154, and everything in between brought back sooooo many memories! i've got pictures of eire and L dancing in my room in pjs, jen and eire pretending to sleep in my bed, sophie trying to feed shadi snails, L smiling from her computer desk, eire annoyed at me taking a pic of her talking on the phone, the addy 4 sweatshirt pix...oh so much to miss!! i really miss kingston...never gonna get those times back...guelph just isn't the same. so i'm going to go visit and relive the old times, half off viarail or not! :D

it's july already!

so i've fallen behind a bit...my first entry of the month is on the 11th! but i've had a busy couple of weeks, what with a slightly-over-a-weekend trip to new york city, back and forth to TO and just too much has been happening for me to have a chance to get a blog in. should i talk about the trip? maybe briefly - it was a blast! i don't think i've ever been so tired after a weekend away - it was so exhausting and yet so exhilerating with constant activity, almost 24 hrs each day. i didn't get any sleep whatsoever, but got to see almost my entire mum's side of the family and also friends i haven't seen in ages. one of my best friends moved to new york for the summer, so got to spend some quality time with her. the engagement party i went to was really really nice...everyone got dressed up, so it was quite fun. the bus ride to nyc was a nightmare, but trip back wasn't bad, even though officially it was supposed to be 2.5 hrs longer than the first. what else? school sucks....i CANNOT keep myself motivated....i don't even like staying in guelph right now because of this stupid basement apartment. i can't wait to get out of here, even if i don't end up going to bangladesh in the fall. but please oh please let me go back home for a few months. i'll miss one person incredibly while i'm away, but i will have the pleasure of being at home, and also getting something useful done in terms of my thesis...AND i will be out of this apt. off to bed in a bit...a dull bit of update possibly, but i should be more regular from now on...at least for a couple of weeks! if i put every thought down, i'd never get up from here...
